Base General Bernardo O’higgins Riquelme, also Basic General Libertador Bernardo O’higgins Riquelme, or shortly Bernardo O’higgins, named after Bernardo O’higgins – permanently staffed Chilean base in Antarctica. It is located at 63°19’15″S 57°53’55″W / 63.32083°S 57.89861°W /-63.32083;-57.89861, at an elevation of 13 m, about 30 km South-West from the Main Head, the most Northern point of the Antarctic Peninsula. It was established on 18 February 1948 and is one of the Antarctic bases with the longest times of continuous operation. A winter population of 16, and the peak population of the Antarctic summer, usually 44, although up to 60 people can be accommodated. The Foundation manages the Chilean army. This is also known as Puerto Covadonga after the port on which it is located.

German Antarctic Station of destination (GARÐAR) was established in 1991 Higgins O in DOLLAR. This is a satellite ground station located in Antarctica to enable reception of data from satellite-based sensors in the southern polar region, which would otherwise be lost. The high sensor bandwidth, such as SAR generate too much data to be stored on Board the satellite for transmission to ground stations elsewhere. The GARÐAR was located in O Higgins because of the Geology, infrastructure and availability basis.
